WE MAKE NOISE is a collaborative music education platform connecting teaching artists to creative youth in Brooklyn and beyond. In addition to creating rigorous learning environments, all of our programs emphasize the core values of critical pedagogy, anti-discrimination, restorative justice, and the right to access, all with a greater goal of community-building. We believe that it is a right, not a privilege, to access music and arts education that is hands-on, collaborative, and culturally relevant to students’ day-to-day lives.
All programs are offered for free, or for a sliding-scale suggested donation.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMS
We offer year-round programming after-school and on weekends, including instrument instruction and live band songwriting workshops, as well as a week-long intensive Rock Camp over the summer. All programs are student-driven, with teaching artists collaboratively building curriculum based on students' interests and abilities.
Instrument Classes in keyboard, drums, guitar, and vocals take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings in The Lab, a music education studio inside The Silent Barn. They are catered to students at beginner and intermediate levels, and open to ages 8-15. All instruments and materials are provided, and once a student has attended several classes, they have the option of checking out an instrument from our library to practice at home. Classes have rolling registration, so check our calendar to see when students can join us to try it out!
Live Band Classes allow students to form a band, write original songs, perform shows, record in a professional studio, and make music videos. The current class takes place on Sunday mornings in collaboration with our partners Educated Little Monsters, who also offer classes in Hip Hop, theater, dance, and visual arts. Every 8 weeks, students participate in a collaborative showcase, where students from all ELM's departments present new material. The next session begins on Sunday, April 2nd, when we will be accepting new student applications. Email Lizzie@wemakenoise.org to set up an interview!
Rock Camp is an intensive instrument and songwriting program, with students taking instrument classes, forming a band, and writing a song over the course of one week in July or August. The program culminates with a Camper Showcase, where students perform at a professional music venue for their families and friends. Rock Camp is open to students of all abilities, ages 10-17, with internship opportunities for students ages 16-17.
